City to be entirely Wi-Fi enabled by November 2018
Under the Smart City initiative, the state government aims to make Bhubaneswar entirely Wi-Fi enabled by November 2018. To ensure this, fibre optic network would be put throughout the city along with 1,800 Wi-Fi access points. This will allow citizens to have free wi-fi access for some duration thus removing the digital divide and also the e-governance facilities will be promoted. STPI had already created PoC (proof of concept) in around six strategic locations of the city with the cooperation of companies like Bharti Infratel, Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Ortel. As per the city Wi-Fi project report, Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) has estimated a budget of Rs 126 crore investment through viability gap funding (VGF).
