Odisha to have its first railway staff training centre at Cuttack
East Coast Railway (ECoR) has planned to build the first multi-disciplinary training centre in Odisha to be located in Cuttack district for the training of its non-gazetted staff. The training centre will have a hostel and staff quarters in its campus. The project with a budget of Rs 19 crore is going to constructed on a patch of 18 acres at Jagatpur in Cuttack district and being targeted to be completed by 2018. Though it was proposed by former railway minister Mamata Banerjee in the 2010-11 Union budget, the funds have been sanctioned this year. So far, ticket examiners (TTE), clerical staff, drivers, guards, and other field staff handling safety operations of the ECoR have to go to the Zonal Railway Training Institute at Sini near Tata Nagar under South Eastern Railway.
