BMC adopts CCTV surveillance to tackle solid waste disposal problem
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is going to install 20 CCTV cameras at the temporary transit station (TTS) in Gadakana. This will facilitate real-time monitoring of garbage disposal. Through this live feed of the location’s activities will be sent to digital screens installed at BMC and City Health offices. It is being observed that garbage carrying trucks are being filled with mud, soil and concrete to increase the load, thereby the billing amount leading to loss for BMC’s exchequer. Thus the focus is to keep an eye on weighing and segregation, however, the general activities at the TTS can also be monitored. Initially, on a pilot basis, eight cameras have been installed at five vantage points along with two sanitary inspectors are appointed. This attempt is sure to address the solid waste disposal problem faced by BMC.
