BDA projects adopt translocation of trees
In its endeavour to make the capital city a green and liveable city, recently the Bhubaneswar Development Authority has translocated 450 trees from the Master Canteen and Nehru Park area to various parks of the city like Madhusudan Park in Pokhariput, Buddhajayanti Park in Niladrivihar, Kharavel Nagar Park in Unit III area and IG Park near Post Master General’s Office. This was done to avoid tree felling mainly during the re-development of the city’s railway station area. Scientific translocation method is being used as the live trees are taken with soil attached to it. The translocation process being carried out during the night hours to ensure better freshness in their body and regular watering is provided to ensure that the plants and trees survive in their newly adopted surrounding. All future BDA and Smart City projects will resort to translocation policy to minimise tree felling for an eco-friendly Bhubaneswar.
