Capital city’s 14 water bodies to be restored
Fourteen water bodies of the capital city will be restored by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC). A budget of Rs 16.81 crore has been allocated for the execution of this initiative by Odisha Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (OUIDF). Seven water bodies will be restored by Division I which are Nilakantha Pond at Patia, Masjid Pond at Haridaspur, Sadhua Pond at Pahala, Maa Ugalmani Pond at Chakeisiani, Gadakana Pokhari, Bhotopada Tank and Balunkeswar Pond at Nayapalli. The other seven will be renovated by Division II, they are Jena Sahi Pokhari at Jharpada, Fishery Pond at Laxmisagar, Kapileswar Temple pond, Jharpokhari at Jagamara, Baghua Pond at Jadupur, Badapokhari at Begunia and Haja Pokhari at Sundarpada. These 14 ponds will be de-silted and de-weeded while ensuring a proper retaining wall. ‘Parikramas’ or walk ways will be fenced with seating arrangement and lighting based on the land availability. The renovation process has already started.
