BMC to introduce UPTIN for holding tax collection
The next smart move by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is introduction of a Unique Property Tax Index Number (UPTIN) to digitize the holding tax assessment and collection process. BMC, Bhubaneswar Development Authority and Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited will collaboratively implement the UPTIN project along with a private firm with experience in tax assessment and collection. A seven digit unique number like PAN will be assigned to each holding (commercial and residential houses) for a transparent system in which they will come under tax net permanently. The unique number for respective holdings will be reflected in the tax map which is being done by the Odisha Space Application Centre (ORSAC). Consequently, these holdings will be geo-tagged via the geographical information obtained from satellite imagery. Initially, the project will be executed in two wards. On the success of the pilot regions, holdings of remaining 65 wards will be geo-tagged with the unique number as well.
