Centre targets to launch Toilet Locator app in 85 cities by 2nd Oct
The Centre has launched a "Toilet Locator" initiative under which people having smart phones can download an application and simply tap Google Maps on their smart devices to locate nearby public toilet. The target is to deploy it in 85 cities by October 2. Being also referred to as "Mission Toilet Locator" the initiative is to be launched in Agra, Ajmer, Ahmedabad, Bhilai Nagar, Bhubaneswar, Dhanbad, Greater Mumbai, Guwahati, Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Vijaywada and Greater Bengaluru and many more cities. National Capital Region (NCR) which includes Delhi and its four suburbs have already launched the app in December under which around 50-60 people are using the toilet locator app daily, 5,162 toilets have been mapped and their condition has been rated. The urban development ministry has advised that municipal bodies can avail the support of Quality Council of India (QCI) for mapping all public and community toilets.
