IFC selects two agencies for BBSR e-waste management from June
The World Bank unit, International Financial Corporation (IFC) has selected two agencies for electronic waste (e-waste) management of Bhubaneswar. The IFC is also the adviser to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on e-waste management. Sofies Sustainability Leaders Private Limited and Siddha Development Research and Consultancy Private Limited are the two agencies which will manage capital city’s e-waste from June. The agencies possess experience of handling numerous international e-waste projects. The ragpickers will also be involved in this project. Apart from setting up an effective mechanism for collection and storage of e-waste for processing and dismantling in future, they will also develop a sustainable e-waste management ecosystem in the smart city to avoid proliferation and reckless reuse. Later in September, a big awareness campaign will be launched to educate people about e-waste handling. This will be organized with the cooperation of Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) and other government and non-government organizations.
