People of all Odisha districts can now access free chemotherapy
The Odisha government is going to provide free chemotherapy facility for cancer patients to all 30 districts and radiotherapy will be extended to four districts within the next two years. There are plans to have radiotherapy in district headquarters hospitals at Bhubaneswar, Nabarangpur, Jharsuguda and Angul. Providing for the infrastructure for radiotherapy will entail an expenditure of around Rs 40 crore to Rs 50 crore. The delayed diagnosis of cancer is the major issue. It is diagnosed either at stage III or IV in the case of 70 to 80 % of patients due to which treatment turns costly and survival rate is reduced significantly. The Chief Minister announced that a comprehensive action plan is going to be launched soon to spread cancer awareness among the public .As a result, prevention and early detection of the disease will be possible.
