Odisha to have India's First Blood Bank for Cattle
The coastal state Odisha is going turn into the first Indian state to have a Cattle blood bank. The Vice-chancellor of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) Surendra Nath Pasupalak was glad to share that the first of its kind blood bank would come up on the premises of OUAT. The project would entail an estimated budget of Rs 3.25 crore. While the project proposal has been approved by the National Agriculture Development Programme (NADP), the state government approval is pending. The project will be funded by Centre and the state government at 60:40 sharing basis. OUAT Vice-Chancellor stated that the cattle farmers will provide blood voluntarily. Additionally, the blood bank representatives will collect blood from centres. The proposed blood bank will provide Blood transfusion facility for cattle blood to prevent the cattle death arising during deliveries and other diseases.
