Paradip all set to become smart port and smart city
Under Central government’s plan to bring about a speedy development of Odisha, Paradip would be developed into a smart port and smart city with an investment of Rs.40,000 crore. The Union road transport and highways minister, Nitin Gadkari announced this while laying the foundation stone of the much-awaited second bridge on the Brahmani river on Friday. Gadkari said the new bridge project entailing Rs.550 crore would be completed in two years. For the ambitious Paradip project initially, Rs.2,700 crore will be released and another Rs.2,000 crore would be spent to increase the depth of Paradip port so that it can handle a variety of vessels and cargo. Moreover, a railway line between Paradip and the coal town of Talcher at an investment of Rs.9,000 crore is also in the pipeline. Talcher coal belt’s production capacity would also be raised up to 300 million tones. Additionally, the Paradip region will receive around Rs.1 trillion for different petroleum and
petrochemical projects.
