ECoR introduces ramp for wheelchair at Bhubaneswar
The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has introduced ramp for wheelchair at Bhubaneswar railway station. This will allow the persons with disabilities (PWD) to board trains conveniently. The gap between the train and platform makes it difficult for them to get into the train. Now, wheelchairs for the PWD are available at the station. The PWD can avail the free service after showing any of their identity cards. The makeshift ramp was used for the first time in Bhubaneswar-Mumbai Konark Express helping four PWD in easy boarding of the train. Subodh Choudhury, chief rolling stock engineer of ECoR, informed the ramp is designed by ECoR engineers. As it is a foldable ramp, its mobility is easy. Soon it will be introduced in ECoR’s other A1 stations Puri and Visakhapatnam. He also said, "After reviewing the success of this project, we will replicate this idea in medium and small stations later."
