Utkal rural campus project takes off
The foundation stone of the rural campus of Utkal University was laid by Higher Education Minister Ananta Das at Siha village in the Badachana block of Jajpur district on 1st August. The project entailing a cost of Rs 70 crore is targeted to be completed by 2019. The rural campus will come up over an area of around 66.30 acres of land. Utkal vice-chancellor Soumendra Mohan Patnaik said, "Vocational courses to be offered here on rural development and other subjects will help students get employed in different sectors." The plan for second campus of the university and its budget was announced and approved two years back by chief minister Naveen Patnaik. However, the location was finalized last week after a team of the Utkal University along with Barachana MLA Amar Prasad Satapathy and senior officials visited Siha village. The higher education department has taken the possession of the identified land for the project.
