Odisha extends ESMA on ambulance services
On 1st August 2017, the Odisha government extended Orissa Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) to workers engaged in running of emergency ambulance services by six months. A notification was issued by the home department in this regard. As per the provisions of ESMA, no strike and cease-work can occur by workers/crew members engaged in ambulance service by the government or any agency hired by the government. The state of Odisha runs two ambulance services. The first is 108 which caters to the emergency healthcare need for all and the second is 102 addresses maternal care.
