Odisha to have special development councils in nine tribal-dominated districts
Special development councils are going to be formed in nine tribal dominated districts namely, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Nabarangapur where the tribals population is exceeding 50 per cent of the total population of the district. This has been officially notified by the state planning and convergence department. The major objectives of the development councils will include tribal culture and language conservation and its propagation, holding exposure visit, area/culture specific development interventions etc. The state government has allocated an additional Rs 1.5 crore in the form of grant-in-aid to each block of the nine districts beyond the funds allotted under different schemes. These councils will spend Rs 175.50 crores per annum to achieve their aim.
