Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation to set-up five mobile sewage treatment plants
With a view to combat heavy pollution in the Kuakhai river and other natural water bodies, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to set up mobile sewage treatment plants (STPs) in five locations namely, Jharapada, Gadakana, near Sainik School, Ghatikia and Basuaghai. 1,200 sq ft of land will be provided by the BMC for each STP. A private party which will bear the cost of the power requirements for the project will be engaged by the civic body to handle the transportation and treatment of sewage by installing the temporary plants. The decision to set up temporary STPs was taken as the construction of the comprehensive permanent sewerage system had been delayed.
