Odisha gets its first Community fridge in Bhubaneswar
For the first time in Odisha, two voluntary organizations have installed a community refrigerator in front of a restaurant at Sainik School square. The aim is to feed hungry people of the city with the surplus food which goes wasted. The community fridge initiative called 'Annapurna' has been jointly taken up by two organizations namely, Bhubaneswar Knights Round Table (BKRT) and Bhubaneswar Queens Ladies Circle (BQLC). BKRT chairman Gaurav Chawla said they raised the fund from different likeminded people to start the project. "People can also donate money to help partner members to keep food in the fridge. The restaurant near the fridge will look after the daily affairs of the Annapurna project," While the food will be served to needy people after quality testing by a known restaurant, the volunteers will identify needy people and ensure that the organisations have plan to install four more fridges at different places like- Patia, Saheed Nagar, Old Town and Bhubaneswar Railway Station.
