Jharsuguda Airport to be operational by November
The airport at Jharsuguda is all set to be launched by November first week under Centre's Regional Connectivity Scheme-Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) programme. In July 2014, the state government and the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had signed a MoU for development of the Jharsuguda airport for which Rs 210 crore was budgeted. Infrastructure development of the facility is over and training of 44 police personnel and nine fire service personnel to be deployed at the airport has been conducted by the state government. The commencement of flight services from the new airport will start as soon as the private operator (Air Odisha) is ready. The operators have confirmed the operations will start in the next month in Odisha after they launch their services in Gujarat. The Rourkela airstrip is also likely to be ready in next couple of months.
