Smart City Updates
ABB fast chargers power Luxembourg smart buses
ABB, the technology leader proclaimed the introduction of two new fast chargers at Luxembourg City’s central station. This is a part of the rollout of a new plug-in hybrid bus system in the city. Through this system, a pantograph, a flexible hinged assembly that enables the stationary charger to connect to the bus to deliver 150 kW of power in just the 3–6 minute. No cable plugging in required. These novel ABB fast chargers employ the OppCharge open interface for automated charging of electric buses. Backed by the cloud, they enable remote diagnostics and management, providing over-the-air updates. These smart chargers are designed with hardware flexibility so that these can be scaled up. These being modular, module upgrades up to 450 kW is possible. Considering, in future buses with larger batteries and faster-charging speeds will power the city, it is a milestone towards the low-carbon, sustainable transport. First Deputy Mayor of the City of Luxembourg Sam Tanson expressed, “This ambitious pioneering project represents the starting point in our endeavor to a zero emission urban bus system for the City of Luxembourg in the near future.”
