Smart City Updates
Centre adds 9 capital cities to Smart City Mission
The scope of Indian Smart City Mission has been expanded as the Urban Development Ministry has allowed participation of 9 more cities in the upcoming Smart Cities Mission competition. The new entrants are Patna, Thiruvanthapuram, Bengaluru, Amravati, Itanagar, and Gangatok who will participate in the next round of competition. These nine capitals have been included due to "political compulsions". This has been confirmed by the Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu as per the Hindu report. This takes the count of smart city competing cities from 100 to 109. The report also reveals that the Ministry has also allowed the governments of Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh to nominate two cities.
