Chennai to launch Smart Card for school students
From December, Chennai is going to start distribution of the 'smart cards' to 1.25 crore school students. This was confirmed by Minister for school education, sports and youth welfare, KA Sengottaiyan who had earlier in May 2017, announced this initiative. These smart cards will not only solve the attendance problem but also can track the academic performance, including grades of a student. Primarily, these cards will allow the parents to track the whereabouts of the students to confirm if they're attending school. This will be possible through a chip inserted into each card which will relay the information. The smart student ID cards will have various important information about each student including Aadhaar number, blood group, family details and contact number. Other academic information of students like phone number of the teachers, school provided facilities, number of students in the school etc will also be available through the card.
