Dubai adjudged the winner, Smart City of 2017
Dubai has been adjudged the winner, Smart City of 2017 at the seventh edition of the Global Smart City Awards in Barcelona owing to its widespread blockchain deployment and “efforts to lead global thinking”. United Arab Emirates city has been recognized for its “most outstanding initiatives and projects in the urban innovation and transformation industry.” The aim is to become first “blockchain-powered government.” The three main pillars of this strategy are; government efficiency (paperless), industry creation, and international leadership. The idea is to provide the blockchain platform to global counterparts to improve safety, security and convenience for international travellers to Dubai. Besides Dubai, Shenzen (China) was awarded for its congestion-reducing “Traffic Brain,” and Yanbu (Saudi Arabia) was appreciated for its new fibre network with smart lighting control and improved mobility.
