Odisha to get two more Doppler radar stations
With a view to tackle natural disasters in the state better, the Union ministry of earth science has plans to install two more Doppler radars at Sambalpur and Balasore, Odisha, to be functional in 2-3 years. This was announced by department's secretary M N Rajeevan during the inaugural function of the Tropmet 2016 national symposium on Sunday (18-12-2016). Currently, the state has two Doppler radar stations, addition of two more radars will imply sharper forecasts on cyclonic storms. While Paradip got state's first Doppler radar in November 2015, the second one is situated at Gopalpur is almost ready to function. As per official sources," In addition to providing accurate information on cyclones, the doppler radar will be able to monitor the atmospheric situation within a 500 kilometre radius from its centre. It will also help in strengthening coastal security."
