State launches women helpline ‘181’
To mark the occasion of International Women's Day, Chief minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated a 24X7 toll-free helpline number ‘181’ for distressed women. Through the helpline the women in distress shall be able to get quick response of various services like lodging police complaint, seeking medical, legal and counseling assistance to women victims. Moreover, through this, women will be able to take benefits of various state government schemes aimed at women welfare. In 2013, the Centre had launched the ‘181’ helpline number in the aftermath of the brutal gang-rape of Nirbhaya in December 2012. The Centre had then directed all states to start the helpline. In addition to ‘181’, ‘1091’ helpline number by the police and ‘10920’ helpline number by the State Commission for Women are also available women safety.
