BBSR to have Social Equity Centre for poor soon
Under the Smart City initiative, Bhubaneswar is planning to build a four-storey building with a built-up area of 37,645 sq ft at Unit III in Kharavel Nagar area by November 2018. This building to be called ‘Social Equity Centre’ (SEC) will be constructed by the Odisha government under Project Kutumb to meet the housing needs of construction workers and urban homeless. The project will provide for rental accommodation for construction workers with 200 beds and 50 additional beds reserved for urban homeless. It also includes Aahar Centre (subsidised cooked meal), water ATMs with RO purifier, terrace area, multi-use halls, play area for children, public toilets near the dining hall and other basic amenities. The project with a budget of around `5.40 crore will be funded by the state government through Orissa Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board.
