Mundoghat, Sambalpur to expand the green cover
Under urban plantation scheme, the forest department is developing a green belt at Mundoghat area, Sambalpur to expand the green cover. Around 30,000 saplings have already been planted on 50 acres of land with an investment of Rs 1 crore. There are further plans to construct a concrete platform and provide seating arrangement inside the green patch to allure visitors. For the survival and proper growth of the seedlings, there is an arrangement of drip irrigation and a water body has been developed on the land. The area has been fenced and staggered trenches have been created on the land to conserve water during monsoon. Santosh Joshi, the divisional forest officer revealed the aim of the project, "This will help give people a peaceful retreat where they can also get some fresh air. Moreover, the plantation drive will also help protect the land from being encroached upon.”
