New light and sound show at Konark Sun Temple
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the 35-minute light and sound show at the Sun Temple of Konark. It is available for tourists in three different languages through customised headphones to check noise pollution. This milestone for the Odisha tourism industry has been implemented by the Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) with a budget of Rs 5.5 crore. The animated show will have two shows every day to entertain 250 audiences at a time. This is first such show in India where headphones are being used. The show is screened on the front façade which can be enjoyed by paying Rs. 50 to be included in the entry fee. Tourism minister Ashok Panda said, "The show depicts the popular legend of Dharmapada apart from the historical and religious significance of the temple constructed by King Narasimha Dev-1 in 1255 CE through laser technology. The show will continue every day except rains."
