Fishermen to carry biometric card mandatorily
With a view to ensure enhanced coastal security state government has made biometric card mandatory for fishermen involved in offshore and deep-sea fishing. This will be helpful to trace the infiltration activities at the coast. Under this initiative, the fishermen venturing into the sea will be issued a waterproof biometric identity card. They must mandatorily carry the biometric card while fishing. Out of 3,46,948 fishermen who have been identified to avail the biometric card, 3,45,649 have been photographed for the card. The process for taking photographs of rest of the fishermen is expected to be over by end of October. Additionally, in the initial phase the government has set up five marine police stations at Balaramgadi in Balasore district, Dhamra in Bhadrak, Jambu in Kendrapara, Paradip in Jagatsinghpur and Aryapali in Ganjam district. In the next phase, 13 marine police stations have been set up in Talasari and Kasaphal area in Balasore, Chudamani and Kasia in Bhadrak, Talchua and Jatadhari in Kendrapara, Astarang, Chandrabhaga and Penthakata in Puri.
