Bhubaneswar proposes to have a second DCP
The capital city is contemplating the idea of appointing one more territorial deputy commissioner of police (DCP) for effective supervision of investigation and improvement of crime control mechanism. Currently, only one territorial DCP is responsible for all the 20 police stations. According to a senior police officer, "We will send the proposal to the home department within a week's time for a second DCP. Jurisdictions of the police stations will be divided into two zones. Each zone will be controlled by a DCP." This proposal is being considering as the territory as well as population of Bhubaneswar has increased significantly. However, recruitment of young and trained sub-inspectors (SI), who investigate bulks of the cases in police stations is being raised as a higher concern as around 55% SI posts are lying vacant in police stations.
