A senior Army official stated, "We are looking at developing the military stations as smart cities where all modern amenities will be made available. Developing state-of-the-art IT network will be a key feature." Forming a part of Army's overall modernisation drive this project is aimed at infrastructure revamping of all military installations including optimisation of signals establishments, military farms and army postal establishments closure in peace locations and restructuring of repair echelons in the Army. Besides, implementation of the reform measures recommended by the Lt Gen (retd) D B Shekatkar committee is also on the cards. This will ensure redeployment of around 57,000 officers and other ranks to strengthen the combat capability of the force. Under this, 65 reform measures are expected to be implemented by December 31, 2019.
